First, this: the donor and recipient area
In a hair transplant, hairs are moved from your donor area to your recipient area.
The donor area is the area on your head where the healthy hair follicles are taken from. Usually this is the back or side of your head, where there is no hair loss. These hairs are moved to the recipient area. This is the area where you are bald or where your hair is falling out.
Day 1-30: rest for your scalp
In the first month after your hair transplant, it is crucial to give your scalp rest.
- Donor area: you should not cut or shave the hair. Let your scalp recover.
- Reception area: likewise no cutting or shaving. Give the new hairs time to grow and settle.
Months 1-3: careful trimming
After the first month, you can carefully start cutting your hair, but only with scissors.
- Donor area: cutting is allowed, but do so only with scissors. Avoid using razors.
- Receiving area: again, cut only with scissors. This prevents damage to new hairs.
Month 4-6: time for clippers
In the fourth month, you can start shaving in the donor area, but be careful with the transplant area.
- Donor area: shaving is possible. You can now use clippers to trim your hair.
- Reception area: cutting is limited to scissor use to avoid damaging the new hairs.
From month 6: free to shave
From the sixth month, you can shave both the donor and transplant areas.
- Donor area: shaving is possible. You can style your hair as desired.
- Reception area: shaving is now also possible. Enjoy your new head of hair!
Hair Styling
In addition to cutting and shaving, it is also important to know how best to style your new hair. In the first year after surgery, it is strictly forbidden to use products containing oils or chemicals. The tissues need to heal first and the grafts placed still need to adjust. The use of these products can lead to unwanted reactions on the skin and may have a negative impact on the growth of grafts in the long term.
