Why aftercare?

Hair transplant aftercare is important for the process of hair growth. Besides ensuring that the hair transplant treatment is done properly and carefully, aftercare is also important for the recovery process. In the first few weeks you will not see much change. Visible results take time. We understand that you can’t wait to have a beautiful head of hair again. This will certainly come back. However, this requires a little patience. If you follow the advice of the doctors well, this whole process will go smoothly. We would like to explain what the process looks like after the treatment.

The process after the hair transplant

The process of hair growth after hair transplantation is not of very short duration. Therefore, a month after the surgery, you will not see any difference. Some patients even panic because the transplanted hair falls out. But not to worry! This is normal and part of the process of hair growth after the hair transplant. In trade term, we also call this the shockfall phase. The fallout starts after about 15 days and can last up to 2 months after the hair transplant. However, this phase is not a standard occurrence. In fact, it could just be that the implanted hairs stay with you. Keep in mind though, because it happens more often than not. Whether or not it happens, it does not matter to the recovery process. This is because what happens to the implanted hairs is that they detach due to the “shock” reaction after which the hair follicle is left behind. From there, the real growth process can begin.

From 3 months after the hair transplant, the hairs will begin to grow. Here the hairs may initially look a little different in terms of structure, color and thickness. However, this will change later on. 4 months after the hair transplant you really start to see results. The following weeks and months the hair will continue to grow. 5 to 8 months after the hair transplant are therefore dominated by the growth and formation of hairs. The hairs continue to grow and new hairs will be created. Therefore, you will see the real result after 12 to 14 months of the transplant. This process is not a standard one. It is different for everyone. Some people’s hairs grow very quickly while others may take longer.

Bumped head after hair transplant, what now?

Did you bump your head after the hair transplant? We understand that you are shocked. However, in general there is not much to worry about. A more important question is how long after the treatment you bumped your head. Just after the treatment there are still scabs present on the scalp. If these have come off because of this, it may bleed a little. It is then useful to have it looked at. If the scabs are already gone, then there is basically nothing wrong and it will be the same as if you bumped your head without having had a hair transplant.

Follow the aftercare advice!

The most important thing is to follow the doctors’ advice! Especially the first two to three weeks after the treatment it is very important to be very careful. For example, you should not smoke, drink alcohol or engage in sports or physical exertion for one week after the operation. You must also be careful when sleeping during the first few days. You will receive a neck pillow for support. This prevents damage to the implanted hairs. That would be a shame. We also advise against spraying, lubricating or doing anything with your hair for two weeks after the treatment. This can cause complications and hair products can dry out your scalp. In addition, avoiding sunlight is also very important up to 4 weeks after the hair transplant. Your scalp is very sensitive during this period. In short, let yourself be well informed by our hair transplant doctors and follow their advice on aftercare. Then the whole recovery period will be smooth and prosperous.
